Pursuant to section 21 of the National Parks General Regulations:

21. The use on a watercourse of any type of motorized watercraft, water-skiing equipment or subsurface diving equipment is prohibited except as permitted by a sign or notice placed, posted or erected by the superintendent at or near the watercourse.

1. The following is PERMITTED on the following watercourses within Waterton Lakes National Park:

a. On Upper and Middle Waterton Lakes:

i. Sub-surface diving equipment

ii. Motorized watercraft that has been quarantined for a minimum of 90 days as evidenced by an intact seal attached, inspected and removed by Waterton Inter-nation Shoreline Cruise Company Ltd.

iii. Motorized watercraft owned and operated by Parks Canada, U.S. National Parks Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Teams and Waterton Inter-nation Shoreline Cruise Company Ltd. Pursuant to subsection 7.1(2) of the National Parks General Regulations, which is stated as follows:

7.1(2) The superintendent may, where it is necessary for the proper management of the park, designate the activities other than those referred to in section 7 that may be carried on only by the holder of an authorization for that purpose.

2. Use of a non-motorized watercraft is RESTRICTED to only the holders of a valid Non-Motorized Watercraft Self-Certification Permit.

This restriction applies at all times on all watercourses within Waterton Lakes National Park. “Non-motorized watercraft” means: any boat, canoe, raft, amphibious craft or other type or class of vessel that is notmotorized or has an electric motor with less than 100 lbs of thrust. These restrictions are in place to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive non-native aquatic species.
