Lock 27 - Young's Point

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

This lock is a popular overnight location for boaters, so plan on arriving early. An appealing park area and good fishing are found at this lock. Newly renovated public washrooms add to the visitor experience.

Constructed: 1870; 1922-1926

Originally built by the Ontario Government in the 1870s, the original lock was a simple wooden crib construction. Transferred to the Federal Government in 1906 a new concrete lock and dam were built in the 1920s. The lockstation commemorates the Young family, Irish emigrants who settled here and Patrick P. Young was Lockmaster for a time.
